  • Fiberglass or carbon inside

    Hi,

i'm thinking about putting on the upper side of the board 3 mm planks instead of 5 mm but in the inner side of the plank lay fiberglass or carbon in order to reduce weight and strengthen the plank.
does any one test it before and can shed some light?

I did it with balsa in 6mm for deck and up to 3mm for bottom. I used 50g/m² glass cloth only. The deck is really stabile, I do not exspect any pressure dents at all, the bottom moves slighty under punctual thumb pressure. If you use a harder wood instead of the balsa, the 3mm could be enough, but it is just a guess.
Just make a 5mm sample one side laminated and a 3mm both sides, and compare.
